Thailand: Proposed increase of the daily minimum wages

Permanent Secretary of Labour and Chairman of the Wage Committee Jarin Chakkapak has announced a proposal regarding new daily minimum wages in Thailand which shall become effective on 1 April 2018.
 

 

The current daily minimum wage ranges from THB 300 (approx. EUR 7.70) to THB 310 (approx. EUR 7.95). The new daily minimum wages will range between THB 308 (approx. EUR 7.90) for the three southern provinces and THB 330 (approx. EUR 8.50) for the provinces Rayong, Chon Buri and Phuket. The minimum wage for Bangkok and surrounding provinces (Bangkok, Chachoengsao, Nahkon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon) will be set to THB 325 (approx. EUR 8.35). The average minimum wage will thus be approx. THB 316 (approx. EUR 8.10).
 

The Ministry of Labour proposed an exemption for promoted projects under the Eastern Economic Corridor scheme (promoted projects in the provinces: Chachoengsao, Chon Buri and Rayong).
 

The government will have to approve the proposed increase and the exemption.
