In Germany, approx. 50,000 children and teenagers are so severely ill that they will not reach adulthood. The association Kinderhospiz Sterntaler e.V. from Mannheim supports these children, teenagers and young adults with life-limiting diseases as well as their families and assists them on their difficult journey.

In addition to providing care and voluntary aid, Sterntaler offers the affected families another important possibility to seek comfort – the inpatient children's hospice in Dudenhofen near Speyer. The former mill is a “little green oasis”, a place of peace and energy which families with children with life-limiting diseases may visit many times to gather strength on their often long-lasting path of care and assistance.

The young guests are lovingly welcomed together with their parents and siblings and are attended to and assisted by a team of doctors, certified caregivers, pedagogues and psychologists.

The team strives to give the days more life but also more space to dying and mourning. The intense experience of the “here and now” creates an important link between everyday life and bidding farewell.

For its meaningful work, the Sternaler children's hospice was honoured with prizes: the “Kinderschutzpreis RLP” in 2011 and the “Hans-Rosenthal-Ehrenpreis” in 2013. To this day, it is the only inpatient facility of its kind in the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan area.

After contacting Svenja Lupp from the association Kinderhospiz Sterntaler e.V., we very quickly agreed that we wanted to donate. We were happy to accept the proposal to buy a go-kart, which will certainly bring a lot of joy to the Sterntaler kids. The go-kart has 2 seats so that siblings, friends and parents can drive along to spend the precious time together.

Additionally, the children from the Sterntaler hospice will spend a family afternoon on a horse ranch. We are looking forward to the report in the summer, when the days are longer and warmer again and the kids will go for the trip.
