Employees´ Social Security: Extension of invalidity scheme coverage to foreign workers

Malaysia´s Social Security Organization (“SOCSO”) recently announced under Employee’s Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4), Employer Circular No 2 Year 2024, that foreign workers including expatriates and foreign domestic workers are to be covered under the Invalidity Scheme effective 1st July 2024. 
     
The scheme is applicable to all foreign workers who possess a valid pass or permit issued by the Director General of Immigration for the purpose of working in Malaysia. 
     
The scheme provides 24 hours coverage to employees who suffer from invalidity or death due to any cause and not related to their employment. 
     

The coverages under the Invalidity Scheme are: 

  • Invalidity Pension 
  • Invalidity Grant
  • Constant-Attendance Allowance
  • Survivors’ Pension
  • Funeral Benefit
  • Facilities for Physical/ Vocational Rehabilitation and Dialysis 
  • Education Benefit

The contribution payment can be made on the same channel used for SOCSO contributions and shall start for the July 2024 salary. The contribution deadline is maintained at the 15th day of the following month.
