As the fifth country to join Scaling Solar and the first country outside Africa, Uzbekistan has launched a tender for the first PV project with a capacity of 100 MW to be implemented in the south-west of the country. The tender has however been limited to 11 companies who won a previous competitive procedure conducted outside the Scaling Solar initiative back then. The results are expected to be published in the 3rd quarter of 2019.
Overall, up to 1 GW is planned to be tendered to PV power plants in Uzbekistan as part of the Scaling Solar initiative. The country has so far relied mostly on gas representing 82% of the country's electricity generation.
