Brazil: Central Bank – Five-year census of foreign capital in the country

Pursuant to Law 4,131/1962 and in accordance with Circular 3,795/2016, the Central Bank of Brazil (CB) conducts the Census of Foreign Capital in the country (Census), with the objective of compiling statistics on the foreign sector, in particular the International Investment Position, subsidizing the formulation of economic policy and assisting activities of economic researchers and international bodies.

 

 

The Five-Year Census for the year 2021 shall be submitted with a base date of 31 December, 2021, by:

  • Legal entities headquartered in the country, with direct participation of non-residents in its capital stock, in any amount 
  • Investment funds with non-resident shareholders through their managers and 
  • Legal entities headquartered in the country, with a total outstanding balance of short-term commercial credits (payable within 360 days) granted by non-residents, in an amount equal to or greater than the equivalent of US$ 1 million (one million US dollars)

The deadline to submit the Five-Year Census Statement starts on 1 July 2021 and ends on 16 August 2021, at 6:00 PM.

The non-compliance with the obligations or provision of incorrect or incomplete information are subject to the penalties provided by the Law No. 13,506/2017, in accordance with Circular No. 3,857/2017 of the Brazilian Central Bank.
