Dear readers,

The year 2024 is drawing to a close with political turbulence, while the German economy is stagnating, and regulatory requirements continue to increase. For many companies, it is difficult to position themselves for business success and stay on course. In view of the upcoming annual financial statements, we would like to give you an outlook for 2025 in the second issue of our new newsletter “Reporting Trends & Solutions” with a focus on the further development of corporate reporting regulations.

In our “Trends & Solutions” section, we take a closer look at the IFRS Amendments, i.e. the changes to be applied from the 2024 reporting period or future reporting periods. From the 2025 financial year on, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will oblige all other large companies in the user group to disclose comprehensive sustainability information in accordance with the new European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). In addition to this major challenge in terms of content, there is also the current legal uncertainty due to the pending adoption of the German CSRD Implementation Act. Find out in our CSRD Roadmap what consequences a delayed implementation would have, and which steps are of central importance on the way to audit-proof sustainability reporting. In 2024, the European Union adopted a comprehensive legislative package to combat money laundering and terrorist financing (EU AML legislative package), which we also present to you in detail.

In our “Reporting News” section, we have summarized other topics relevant for the coming year, including the impact of the new ISA [DE] 600, the audit priorities for enforcement, the IDW module announcement on sustainability reporting, the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), software solutions for the closing process, working capital management, the new IDW draft on the principles for the conduct of Business Valuations and more.

To help you keep track of the many changes and updates, we have compiled the most relevant points for companies in the field of auditing clearly and at a glance in our “Ready for 2025” checklist.

We hope that this issue provides you with a clear overview of the most important changes. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us or our experts directly. We want to stay close to your side even in times of rough winds and contribute to your success with our commitment.

Despite all the turbulence and uncertainty, we should not only look at the difficulties, but also take advantage of the opportunities they present. Entrepreneurial skill is particularly evident in times of crisis. With this in mind, we wish you a good end to 2024 and let's work together to ensure that 2025 is also a success.

Yours truly,
Martin Wambach & Prof. Dr. Bernd Keller
