National semiconductor strategy

A new plan to capture more semiconductor investment into Malaysia, led by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (“MITI”) has been established. It involves 3 phases:

Phase 1:

Building on Foundations, leveraging and supporting modernization;

Phase 2:

Moving to the Frontier, integration with the purchasers of these chips;

Phase 3:

Innovating at the Frontier, supporting world-class Malaysian Semiconductor Design, Advanced Packaging and Manufacturing Equipment firms.

There are now five targets set, covering targeted investments, training of engineers, and fiscal support. More details are expected to be announced by MITI soon.
