Hydrogen powered vehicles in Sarawak

PrintMailRate-it
Sarawak is making strides in adopting hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). The state is set to host an automotive assembly plant that will produce these FCEVs, with the aim of bringing down their cost and promoting clean and renewable energy sources.

The proposed plant aligns with the Sarawak government’s policy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and to encourage the switch to cleaner energy options. By focusing on FCEVs powered by locally produced hydrogen, Sarawak aims to make these vehicles more affordable for its residents.

In the past, Sarawak achieved a significant milestone by launching South-East Asia’s first integrated hydrogen production plant and refueling station in Kuching. State-owned Sarawak Energy Bhd now owns a fleet of hydrogen-powered FCEVs, and a pilot project involves importing more hydrogen fuel cell buses for free city service.
